To better serve customers and provide a more spacious, comfortable work environment Marco, Inc. planned for a new headquarters in St. Cloud, MN. In keeping with Marco’s corporate vision of energy efficiency and providing employees a great place to work, building system design needed to consider how to accomplish a healthy comfortable workplace in the most cost-effective, energy efficient manner.
Design Tree Engineering collaborated with the builder, Rice Building Systems, and Marco to arrive at a HVAC system designed around Variable Refrigerant Flow (VRF). Even though a VRF system requires higher up-front costs than traditional systems, the energy that was more centrally located in their service area. Design Tree Engineering was part of the design team in a Land Surveying and Civil Engineering capacity and provided Mechanical and Electrical Engineering for the contractor in a Design/Build capacity.
The project included an HVAC system that balanced up front capital cost with comfort and energy efficiency. Site design consideration s included storm water treatment to protect an adjacent wetland and planning for a future addition.
